Invitation for Service-Providers to Erect Show-houses

Stellenbosch Municipality, like so many other local authorities in SA is faced with huge challenges such as poverty, informal settlements, unemployment, and access to basic services.  Whilst we remain committed to meet the housing-and service needs in a sustainable and integrated way, limited resources demands from us to seek for innovative ways to provide services and housing opportunities.  As a result we seek to partner with service-providers in testing and show-casing innovative solutions in amongst other the following fields:

  • Alternative construction methods
  • Alternative solutions for solid waste-management
  • Alternative energy sources and electricity-usage
  • Water-conservation
  • Sanitation-solutions

For this purpose Stellenbosch Municipality will make available a piece of land where prospective developers/service providers can erect a show-unit to demonstrate their products.  This piece of land is situated in Cloetesville and is more fully described as a Portion of Erf 6847. The proposed units must be SABS and NHBRC approved. The units must be in the subsidy quantum (BNG and GAP)received from the Department of Human Settlements. The standard of the units erected must be at least 40-42m².The erection and demolition of the show-unit will be at the costs of the service-provider and such unit must be made available for showcasing purposes to the municipality for a period of no less than 3 months.  In addition the safe-keeping and maintenance of the units for the duration of the expo will be for the account of the service provider. Service providers must also note that no engineering services or connections will be provided since the units will only be used for demonstration purposes. Permission to erect show-houses will be granted on a first come first served-basis and no construction can occur without the prior, written consent of the municipality. The units must be erected before end of January 2014.When constructed, in the process of demolition and during the demonstration period the service-provider will indemnify the municipality against any and all claims which may result from the utilization, viewing, construction or demolition of any units or part of a unit or any utility-service constructed or provided.
