Mayor Conrad Sidego joined in the play-off activities for the Community Chest Golf Day on Thursday, the 19th of March 2015 at De Zalze golf estate in Stellenbosch. The scenic golf course inspired the golf teams in their games but also especially the fact that they were playing to uplift the game of education in Stellenbosch for all communities.
The golf day was hosted by Community Chest and the Mayor of Stellenbosch to raise funds for education. This event provided the opportunity for Community Chest to raise funds that will provide bursaries to the future minds of the winelands valley. Every ball played helped raise funding for 10 schools and 10 bursaries for 10 learners.

This event is an example of the saying that it takes a whole community to raise a child. The Community Chest’s vision is that of a country where all individuals and families reach their human potential based on the fundamentality of access to Health, Education, Income-Generation and Community Development. These four key strategic focus areas of the Community Chest add to facilitate social change to inspire a citizenship that is active, engaged and impactful.
The citizens of Stellenbosch were truly engaged through this golf day and the mayor thanked all participants at the prize giving for their active participation in this community. The winning team who won at the Betterball Stableford competition format of the day were team Stridalong.
Golf days like this one truly do add to improve the lives of South Africans in the winelands through the mobilisation of the caring power of communities, business and government to advance the common good.
